Case Study: Operation Rhinoctopus
/ Summary
As members of the Atlanta band rhinoctopus,
we strive to create an immersive environment for audiences to experience;
our current show consists of live experimental musical performance
combined with projected videos edited to complement our compositions.
We wish to increase the level of experiential immersion, while adding
more audience interactivity and spontaneity. The rhinoctopus video
manipulation interface is a tool currently being developed that
allows audience members at a rhinoctopus performance to become performers
themselves. As they interact with the controller, which exists in
the form of a silicone tentacle, participants are able to change
the video elements being projected onscreen, and therefore, transfigure
the space and experience that is interpreted by all present at the
event.
