Case Study: Better Living Through
Science / Summary
For the final project
in “Visual Culture and Design”, I decided to examine
current trends in the venue of health and wellness marketing circa
2004. One of the goals of this project was to look at specific
online health and wellness brand examples, and offer some commentary
on the language and messages presented. Since it has been said
that the medium is the message, I chose to make my project using
similar design strategies that I had used in the past for corporate
health and healthcare clients.
Another aspect of this project dealt with the quality of "lack"
that much of Western culture feels when considering their health
and wellness. Often, people feel that they lack certain objects
or characteristics in their lives, and if they possessed these
things, then they might be happier or more fulfilled human beings.
In this project, I elaborated on six of these different scenarios,
and offered health and wellness solutions to each, also including
the individual solutions' price tag. For the purpose of this project,
I decided to break down the health and wellness field into three
main categories: Pharmaceuticals,
Devices and Inventions, and
Remedies and Elixirs.
